Broadway Box Office
Week #15 of the 2012 - 2013 SeasonSeptember 3 - 9; 21 Productions

Overall, the Broadway box office was down nearly 6% for Labor Day week.  The 15th week of the season saw one show open (Chaplin), one begin previews (An Enemy of the People) and another close (Gore Vidal's The Best Man).  The opener got mixed reviews, but did jump 9 whole spots up the chart on the strength of its weekly attendance; the closer went out on a high note, making it back into the top 10 one last time.  Looks like the witches of Wicked are having a bit of a "slump," with just 85% of the seats full this week - they haven't been completely sold out in several weeks.  Will it make headlines, like The Phantom of the Opera, when it goes on TKTS for the first time since it was in previews?  Once continues to tear it up, despite not selling out for the week.  In fact, there was only one SRO show this week, The Book of Mormon, which was also, for the first time, top grosser of the week as well, even out selling The Lion King.  Interestingly enough, Mormon didn't set a new record in doing so.  Week 16 will be the first in several weeks that will see no closings, but will see the addition of two more shows in previews: Grace and Cyrano de Bergerac.
